A huge thank-you to Mr. Martin, our 5th grade team, and all of the Almond families who helped make our third annual Trunk or Treat such a wonderful evening! From the creative, decorated cars to the costumes, treats, and community spirit, it was a night full of fun and connection. We are especially proud of our 5th graders for choosing to support StandUp for Kids – Silicon Valley, helping young people in our community experiencing homelessness. Thank you to everyone who participated, attended, and contributed to making this event so special! 🎃🦅

On Sunday, November 8, many people around the world will celebrate Diwali, also known as Deepavali. Diwali is one of the most joyful and widely celebrated festivals in India and across the world.
The word Diwali comes from the ancient language of Sanskrit and is made up of two words:
-
“Diya,” meaning lamp, and
-
“Aali,” meaning a row or line.
Together, the word means “a row of lamps.”
That’s why Diwali is known as the Festival of Lights! During this special celebration, homes, streets, and temples will glow with rows of small oil lamps called diyas, colorful candles, and bright decorations. The festival celebrates the victory of good over evil, light over darkness, and hope over fear.

How can technology support meaningful learning, and where do we need to be thoughtful about its use? Join us to learn about LASD’s approach to technology and artificial intelligence in our schools. We’ll share how we’re thinking about the opportunities and challenges these tools present, with students’ learning, well-being, and ability to think for themselves at the center. This presentation will be led by Grace Choi, Coordinator of Curriculum and Instruction, and will take place on Friday, November 13th at 9am in the school library.

What happens when students lead their own learning and dive deeply into a question that matters to them, and share their voices in powerful ways? Illuminate LASD invites students to become experts, innovators, and change-makers. Whether it’s researching a topic they’re passionate about, solving a problem that inspires them, or creating something to make an impact, students will share the artifacts that highlight the learning process. From TK to 8th grade, Illuminate LASD invites students to share what they now know and can do by sharing the process and products of their learning on Friday, February 26th from 4:00PM - 7:00PM.
Register today to participate and submit an Intent Form by November 18th by visiting https://tinyurl.com/illuminateLASD. We invite you to share in this experience that connects student curiosity, creativity, and agency!
Our school is still looking for a parent lead for this event so if you are interested in this role, please contact Raquel Matteroli at rmatteroli@lasdschools.org.
