Dear Almond families,

It was such a pleasure seeing so many of our Almond families at this year’s annual Walkathon! Our Eagles showed up with incredible energy, enthusiasm, and school spirit as they walked, ran, cheered one another on, and celebrated together. What a wonderful day for our Almond community!

Our students ran a total of 11,151 laps—that’s 1,480 miles, or the equivalent of traveling to Seattle and back! A special thank you to Lydia and Kevin Buurma for organizing the event and to all of the volunteers who stepped in to help. It truly takes a village to make an event like this possible, and we appreciate everyone who contributed their time and energy.

We would also like to recognize Erin Sobota for leading the games, as well as Almond parents Martha Hernandez, Fernanda Gonzalez, Maria Ramos, Emilia Cortez, Avigail Ramirez, Laidy Mendez, and Anabel Covarrubias for generously donating their time and resources to prepare and serve all of the delicious food!

Our top runners were awarded medals at yesterday’s assembly. Fundraising remains open through Sunday, 10/25, and our top fundraisers and volunteers will be recognized with medals at the 11/4 assembly. Thank you for your generous donations and support!

Way to go, Almond Eagles!

Volunteer Reminder: Please Complete All Requirements!

We are grateful for the many parents and community members who give their time to support our students and schools!

As we continue implementing our updated volunteer requirements, we have noticed that many volunteers have completed fingerprinting but have not yet submitted the required online Volunteer Form. Fingerprinting is just one step in the process, and volunteers are not fully cleared until all required steps are completed.

If you have been fingerprinted, please make sure you have also completed the online Volunteer Form and any additional requirements for your volunteer level.

Fingerprinting comes at a significant cost to the District. When volunteers complete fingerprinting but do not finish the process, valuable resources are spent without resulting in an approved volunteer who can support our schools.

Please help us make the most of these resources by completing all volunteer requirements as soon as possible. If you have already completed everything, thank you!

We deeply appreciate your partnership and your commitment to keeping our schools safe, welcoming, and supported.

Almond Trunk or Treat: Next Friday, October 30, 5:30–7:30 PM

Our third annual Trunk or Treat is just over a week away! Join us in the Almond parking lot for a free, family-friendly evening. Come in costume and trick-or-treat from decorated cars.

We need more trunks!
So far, 9 cars have signed up. Thank you to everyone who has! To make this event amazing, we'd love to have about 20 cars. That means we need 11 more families or staff members to decorate a trunk and hand out treats. It's a lot of fun, and the kids love it!

Supporting StandUp for Kids
This year's cause was inspired by our Readers Workshop book, How to Steal a Dog by Barbara O'Connor. In the story, fifth grader Georgina and her family lose their home and end up living in their car. Desperate to help, Georgina plans to "borrow" a dog and collect the reward money, and she learns some hard lessons about right and wrong along the way. Seeing homelessness through the eyes of a kid their own age moved our 5th graders, and they wanted to help young people facing the same struggles in real life.

They chose StandUp for Kids – Silicon Valley, a volunteer-run nonprofit that has supported Bay Area youth ages 12–24 facing homelessness for more than 20 years. They provide food, clothing, hygiene supplies, mentoring and support.

What your donation can do:

  • $10 = 2 food packs
  • $15 = 2 hygiene kits
  • $25 = a sleeping bag
  • $50 = a jacket
  • $75 = a transit pass

How to give:

Food and drinks
Pizza and drinks will be sold at the event (cash only). All profits go to StandUp for Kids.

Questions? Email Mr. Martín at rmartinmunoz@lasdschools.org

Don't forget to sign up to decorate a trunk. We hope to see you there!

🎃Almond Halloween Parade is happening soon!🎃
