YARD DUTY needed -

We are currently looking for a lunch yard duty. If you have a little extra time in your day, we’d love your help during lunch (12:00–12:45). Your presence makes a real difference. This is a paid position.

Dear Almond families,

Our Character Strong focus for October will be Responsibility, which means “taking action and understanding the impact of our choices.” Students will be introduced to a quote from Martin Luther King, Jr., a community problem solver, role model, and advocate for people’s rights: “The time is always right to do what is right.” In the weeks ahead, students will be challenged to look for opportunities to do the right thing and continue growing in Responsibility.

Almond Traffic Safety

Safety comes first at Almond and we would like to take a moment to remind everyone of the ways we can keep our students and adults safe in the parking lot:

Please turn off your car while you are waiting. Our parking lot is a "No Idling" zone (see posted signs).
Please have students exit on the passenger side only.
For drop off and pick up, please pull your car completely forward. Remain in your car and move forward as cars ahead of you move.
Please do not leave your car unattended by the yellow curb or unparked in the parking lot, especially from 8:10-8:40 or 2:20-3:20.
All walkers and bicyclists must use the crosswalk to cross Almond Ave. It is unsafe to cross otherwise. If you are wheeling students to school, you must walk your bike/scooters when on campus.
Please also take note that walking while using your cell phone can be dangerous
Please do not park in the spaces designated for others (auction winners, PTA, Principal, Nurse, etc.) at any time during the school day.
And always, always mind the instructions of our crossing guards and staff. They are here to keep everyone safe.

Please share this information with all adults that will be driving your children or walking/wheeling students to school.

The Book Fair will be open till Friday – before school, during recess, at lunchtime, and after school.

We can always use extra help so please check for volunteer opportunities and sign up: Sign up to volunteer here

This favorite community fundraising event will require a lot of parent and teen volunteers while kids run laps around the course, raising money for our school. More information for sign-ups will be coming out next week with an announcement made at the assembly!

LAEF’s Fall Fundraising Campaign

The LAEF-funded Art Docents program is underway for the 2026–27 school year, and students across the district are already deeply engaged in exploring art. In classrooms from TK through 6th grade, children are engaging with unique art forms, experimenting with materials, and creating original pieces.

These hands-on experiences are possible because families like you support LAEF.

Donations to LAEF fund the Art Docents program, along with other specialized teachers, staff, and instructional materials that public funding alone does not cover. Huge thanks to the families who have already donated. If you have not yet made your 2026–27 gift, please consider doing so now during our Fall Fundraising Campaign. Gifts of any amount are greatly valued.

Living Classroom Docent Training

Do you like to connect kids with nature? Living Classroom is seeking volunteers to teach our fun nature-based lessons and help care for our school gardens. No experience necessary as we teach you everything you need to know. Please join us from 9:30am-12:30pm on Mondays 8/31-10/19* at the LASD iLearn Studio to train to become a volunteer docent (*no training on 9/7 - Labor Day). If Mondays don't work for you, please ask about our apprentice-style training option. If you are interested in helping to care for your school garden, please contact Living Classroom Garden Manager, Sandi Elefant. LASD Universal Meals Program

Students may bring their own lunch to school, however, no outside food/vendors will be allowed on campus, including deliveries from outside vendors

(i.e. DoorDash or similar service or parent drop off of local food vendors).

ATTENDANCE NOTES:

ABSENCES: If your child is going to be absent, make sure to fill out the new Attendance absence form before 9:00 or by calling 650-917-5454.

LATE ARRIVALS: stop by the office to check in before going to the classroom.

EARLY PICK UPS: fill out the new Attendance absence form or CALL 650-917-5454 and come into the office to check out.

Please let both your teacher & the office know if you are planning to pick up children early.
It will take longer to check out your child during recess (10:10-10:30am) and lunch (12-12:45pm) because we have to locate your child on the playground. Please try to avoid these times by coming before or after recess & lunch.

Independent Study Plans:

Each student may utilize a maximum of 15 ISP days per school year
Please notify the office of the dates of absence as soon as possible.
All Independent Study Plans are subject to principal approval

OFFICE NOTES:

NO dogs allowed on campus
Any volunteers or visitors to LASD schools are required to check in at the front office
FORGOTTEN ITEMS: if you must bring a forgotten item to school, please drop it off to the office and we will deliver it to the classroom. This includes forgotten lunches from home too!
