What is LAEF?

The Los Altos Educational Foundation (LAEF) is a nonprofit foundation led by parent volunteers. LAEF raises funds to sustain and enrich the Los Altos School District's (LASD's) excellent educational program beyond what public funding provides. Donations to LAEF fund teachers and staff for essential programs at all nine LASD neighborhood schools, benefiting every TK-8 student.

LAEF History

LAEF was formed in 1982 by a group of parents in search of a way to support the Los Altos School District (LASD) during a state budget crisis that threatened sudden cuts in teaching staff. LAEF raises funds from parents, the community, and corporate matching gifts through our annual giving campaigns to support the students of LASD. Since its founding, LAEF has contributed over $51M and enriched the education of more than 143,000 LASD elementary and junior high school students.

How are Funds Allocated?

LAEF funding priorities are based on feedback from our annual parent survey and strategic planning sessions with LASD. Our annual grant gives the district the additional resources it needs to make all LASD schools strong.

What is LAEF Funding this School Year?

For the 2022-23 school year, LAEF has pledged to raise $2.8 Million to support teachers and staff for STEM, Wellness, Literacy and Arts, funds that will be spent this year. Donations to LAEF will benefit every student in the district's seven elementary schools and two junior high schools. We welcome gifts of any amount from parents and community members.
