The Los Altos Art Docents are a dedicated group of trained volunteers, who teach art in a manner that expands and motivates the development of creativity and curiosity in the children of the Los Altos School District.

Each grade level, TK-6, has up to 8 unique art lessons that are designed to build on each other from year to year.  Discussion and application of the art elements are woven throughout the curriculum, such that by the end of sixth grade, students have gained an appreciation for fine art, learned a basic art vocabulary, and participated in the process of creating their own individual works of art in clay, cut paper, drawing, paint, printmaking, and watercolor.  Every other year the Art Docents put together a student art show at each school site to highlight this creative work.

Interested in becoming a docent?  No experience with teaching?  No artistic talent?  No problem -- we will train you!  Once trained, we ask our volunteers to commit to teaching once a week in the classroom during the school year.  Learn more about the Docent Training Program.  If you don't have time to volunteer as an Art Docent, volunteer to help in your child's classroom when there is an Art Docent lesson being taught.  All help is appreciated.
