Principal’s Message |
Junior Olympics is tomorrow! Like many things we do in LASD, the Junior Olympics is an event that you have to experience to understand the incredible value for our children and the greater community. You may have heard about it, but to actually be there and FEEL the sense of unity and support from all of our schools is really a tremendous experience. To watch our Springer students strive for their personal best is also a treat. I want to thank our Junior Olympics committee and all of our parent coaches who have worked so hard to this point to make tomorrow a success. This year, more than any other, I have seen our students practicing their events in preparation. They will be READY!! Junior Olympics is held at Mountain View High School at the football stadium. The Opening Ceremony (my favorite part) begins at 9am. Parking around the high school can be difficult so I encourage you to carpool or bicycle to the event. Mountain View HS does not allow dogs on campus so our furry family members will need to stay home. The events begin quickly after the Opening Ceremony concludes. Events go on throughout the day, wrapping up with the exciting relay races at the end. Tomorrow’s forecast call for warm, sunny weather so bring sunscreen, water, and your Springer hats. Hope to see you all out there! Wade Spenader- Principal |
Thank You For An Amazing Book Fair! |
Dear Springer Families, Once again, thanks to You, we had the chance to host an amazing book fair last week. Our kids are such avid readers, it's just wonderful to see them coming back all week long at recess and lunch to grab a book and read over the week. Because of you, we had our best Family Night ever. Thank you! A very special Thank You also to our wonderful volunteers for their time and dedication. This event couldn't exist without you. |
Staff Appreciation Week May 2 - May 6 |
The Springer Staff works so hard to educate, care for and support our children - now let's show our appreciation! Next week is Staff Appreciation Week (May 2-6). Please check your email & Friday folders for daily events and opportunities for students to bring in tokens of their appreciation. So, take a look and let's show our staff how grateful we are! Author Dave Barry Visits Springer--It’s Not Too Late! |
Kepler’s Author Showcase Pulitzer-Prize winning American author and columnist Dave Barry will be visiting with our 3-6 grade students on Monday, May 2. Dave is one of the funniest authors around. He has written more than two dozen books including the tremendously popular "Peter and the Starcatchers" series and "Science Fair", which he co-authored with Ridley Pearson. Dave's latest series is the New York Times bestselling "The Worst" series. The first book of this series is "The Worst Class Trip Ever". Dave will be talking our students about this latest book, "The Worst Night Ever". Order forms for an autographed copy of Dave's latest books can be found here. Please bring your book order on Monday, along with cash payment. While we understand that many parents would like to see Dave Barry in person, we are discouraging parental attendance due to the limited space in the multi. |
PTA Announcements |
Please join us for our next PTA meeting Wednesday, May 4th at 8:30 am. We will be reviewing the summer budget and we will have a special presentation on Cyber Safety! PTA is busy wrapping up projects for 2015/2016 and preparing for next year. Thanks to generous PTA contributions, we have been hard at work making improvements both in the classrooms and outside. Over spring break, we installed shade canopies over the upper grade eating area. Soon you might hear your kids talk about the new furniture hitting classrooms. Based on teacher input, we have purchased standing desks and some innovative stools to try out in the lower grades. The sixth graders are all enjoying the new tables in Room 22. We will continue to have discussions about the effectiveness of our piloted classroom improvements in hopes of rolling out more in the future. Kinder parents....your play space is about to be transformed! Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 21st when volunteers will gather to revamp the kinder blacktop! PTA is stronger when more voices are heard. Please contact us at SpringerPTA@gmail.com if you have a project you would like considered in next year's budget or you would like to get involved. We always have room for more and there is a wide range of volunteer opportunities, ranging from minimal time commitments to larger projects. We are actively recruiting someone to serve as a liaison between the Board and the Walkathon and Auction Chairs as well as someone who would like to coordinate our Back to School Coffee. Both of these positions are supported by strong committees so it is a great way to get involved if you have been considering joining the PTA Board! |
