Almond Wear

The new and expanded line of Almond Wear is now available!

Beautification

The purpose of this program is to maintain the school’s landscaping and the planter boxes outside of the classrooms.

Book Fairs

The PTA sponsors two Book Fairs each year.  The Scholastic Book Fair will be held from October 5-October 10, 2009.  A Kepler’s Book Fair will be held in Spring, 2010.

BookWave

The BookWave will be back at Almond this year! Students will have the opportunity to publish their own book. Stories, picture books, poems, anything goes!

Chorus

The Almond Chorus meets every Wednesday morning at 7:30. Our Chorus is led by Almond 4th Grade Teacher, Mrs. Lisa Call, and is accompanied by 5th grade teacher, Mr. Joseph Chan.

CTC Plays

This year, all children in grades Kindergarten through 5th will attend two CTC plays as field trips.

Directory

The PTA publishes a directory of students and Almond families each fall. It includes a complete listing of students, classes, teachers, PTA officers and committee chair people.

Emergency Preparedness

This committee keeps an ongoing inventory of the first aid barrels, water supply and classroom emergency supplies.

Halloween Carnival

The Halloween Carnival is a fun tradition for Almond families. There will be lots of games and activities keeping with the Halloween theme – don’t forget to wear your costume!  This year’s Carnival will be held on Friday, October 30 from 3:30pm-5:30pm.

Helping Hands

First grade parents volunteer as the primary adult supervision for the first graders during lunch recess. Volunteers help children open tricky lunch items and assist with playground games and disputes.

Holiday Food and Toy Drives

Each year, Almond School holds a food drive prior to Thanksgiving. Students will be asked to donate a nonperishable food item. Donations will be collected in boxes in the classrooms and then donated to a local service agency, which distributes the food to families in need. Prior to the December holidays, Almond holds a toy drive. Students will be asked to donate a new, unwrapped toy. The toys will be delivered through the service agency to families in need.

Hot Lunch

The Almond PTA offers hot lunch to students in grades 1-6 on Monday through Friday. More details here.

Junior Olympics

The Junior Olympics is a district-wide event held at either Mountain View or Los Altos High School for all 4th through 6th graders. Volunteers are needed to help train our Almond athletes or work a shift during the event.  Junior Olympics 2010 will be held on April 24, 2010.

LAEF

The Los Altos Educational Foundation (LAEF) is an organization that actively supports the Los Altos School District through major monetary contributions. This assistance pays for teachers, aides, special instructors and special programs. The funds come from donations made by district families and businesses. Each school provides volunteers for the annual phone-a-thon in mid-October. For more information about LAEF, please see the LAEF page.

Parent Education

This committee schedules speakers with a focus on information to support parents. Events will be announced in the Thursday Word.

Room Parents

The PTA provides each classroom with parent volunteers to serve as room parents. Room parents are responsible for providing support to students and teachers in the classroom and on field trips.

The Running Club offers students in grades 1-6 the opportunity to add more physical movement to their day and work toward reaching personal fitness goals.  Students can run every Monday/Wednesday/Friday during lunch recess.
